A biking photo tour of The Cat and Fiddle (Macclesfield to Buxton, A537)
A blanket 50 mph limit applies to the entire route and is regularly speed-trapped these days by mobile radar units.
Also monitored by police bikes and cars (some marked, some unmarked) and occasionally by helicopter.

COMMON HAZARDS :
  • Vehicles coming at you on the wrong side of the road
  • Arriving at recent crash site(s)
  • Diesel spills (sometimes alleged to be deliberate local sabotage !)
  • Random grit dropped on the road by various trucks
  • Sheep
In spite of all this, it is one of THE best motorcycling roads in England ! It is one of my local routes and I love it - even though I crashed recently on "The Balcony". Hey ho.
The Cat and Fiddle is officially the most dangerous stretch of road in England. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED !!

My 'uphill' tour of the Cat and Fiddle was inspired by Paul Carvill's excellent 'downhill' site: http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~carvill/fiddle/
I found Paul's site in the first place via 'Fast Bikes' mag (an admirable bunch of nutters): http://www.fastbikesmag.com
